Description
Buttermere and Crummock Lake District Print
Buttermere Lake is set in its amphitheatre of mountains, and is a tranquil scene. The low level walk round the lake is a delight, especially if it begins and ends in the hamlet of Buttermere itself. Certainly there is ample opportunity to eat, rest and stay. Also many popular high level walks start from the valley with amazing views. The much larger neighbouring lake Crummock Water is closely followed by the road. With many vantage points looking towards the dramatic slopes of Melbreak and easy access to the Rannerdale valley. Furthermore, Be Careful! the hardy Lakeland sheep wander on the unfenced roads! Small and picturesque settlements are scattered across the widening valley where the waters from the third lake also pass through.
Craig Long Gallery
We welcome you to our Lake District based Gallery in Windermere. The stunning Windermere village grew around the railway station, about a mile and a half from the lake. The village was originally called Birthwaite, but the railway company decided to call the station after the lake. Over the years, the village has become merged with the older lakeside town of Bowness-on-Windermere, though the two have quite separate centres. We have many cafes and Independent shops here. And a 20 minute walk brings you to Bowness-on-Windermere. The beautiful Lakeside with stunning views of The Langdale Pikes and so much more.
